District and State-Wide Assessments

STAR Assessment Information

Administration:  Beginning, Middle and End of Year

  • 4K - 1 - STAR Early Literacy
  • 2 - 8 - STAR Reading
  • 1 - 8 - STAR Math

Star Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with personalized learning data for each student. Star tests are computer adaptive, which means they adjust in difficulty to each answer students provide.

aimsWeb Plus Information

Administration:  Beginning, Middle and End of Year

  • 4K - 3

The screener will check important literacy skills including alphabet knowledge, letter sound knowledge, phonemic awareness, decoding, and oral vocabulary. The skills are tested differently based on your child’s grade level.

Forward Exam Information

Administration:  Spring

  • 3rd - 8th - ELA and Math
  • 4th & 8th - Science
  • 4th, 8th & 10th - Social Studies

The Forward Exam is a high quality, research-based, and affordable online assessment that meets Wisconsin’s expectations. It is a customized assessment with innovative item types that includes test questions reviewed and approved by Wisconsin educators.

ACT and PreACT Information

Administration:  Spring

  • 9th & 10th - PreACT Secure
  • 11th - ACT

Wisconsin high school students in grade 11 will take the ACT with writing® which includes Reading, Math, English, Science, and Writing. Students in grades 9 and 10 will take the preACT Secure which includes Reading, Math, English and Science. The ACT is an in-person assessment that the district administers online. Accommodations and EL supports are available.

Horizon Information

Administration:  Beginning and Middle of Year

  • 9th & 10th - PreACT Secure
  • 11th - ACT

ACCESS Information

Administration:  Winter

  • K - 12 - EL Students

WIDA ACCESS is an annual assessment of the developing social and academic English language proficiency (ELP) of English learners (ELs). This assessment allows educators, students, and families to monitor students’ progress in acquiring academic English in the domains of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. WIDA ACCESS is aligned with WIDA’s English Language Development (ELD) Standards. The WIDA ACCESS is a computer-based assessment. Students will listen to prompts and directions through headphones rather than their teacher reading them.

DLM Information

Administration:  Spring

  • 3 - 11

The DLM™ assessment measures the academic progress of students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in the subject areas of ELA and Mathematics at grades 3-11, Science at grades 4 and 8-11, and in Social Studies at grades 4, 8, and 10.  This is an online assessment delivered via the computer. The DLM system is designed to map a student’s learning throughout the year. The system will also use items and tasks that are embedded in day-to-day instruction. Instruction for these students is based upon the Wisconsin Essential Elements and aligns with the Wisconsin Academic Standards.

The Board shall excuse any student from the State examination administered in 4th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th grade, or 11th grade whether the test administered is the one developed by the Department of Public Instruction or the District’s own test developed and approved by the DPI and the U.S. Department of Education. To opt out of these examinations, the student’s parent must submit a statement in writing to the building Principal stating that the parent is opting out of the examination(s). - Board Policy po2623
